Our Promise, No Artificial Preservatives

What’s Not in Our Cookies

Our Promise to Quality

At The Michael's Place, we believe every bite should be pure, wholesome, and joyful. That’s why we’ve committed to crafting our cookies without harmful or unnecessary additives. Below is a list of ingredients we’ve banned from our kitchen—because your well-being and the quality of our products always come first.

Eggs (Non-Organic, Not Certified Humane)

Why We Avoid Them: Eggs from non-certified sources often come from hens raised in overcrowded, stressful environments with limited access to natural light, fresh air, or proper nutrition. These conditions can lead to lower-quality eggs that may contain residues from antibiotics or hormones.

Instead: We choose Organic Certified Humane eggs to ensure our ingredients meet the highest standards for animal welfare. This results in better-quality eggs that enhance the richness and texture of our cookies.

 Artificial Food Dyes

  • Red Dye 40 (Allura Red AC)
  • Yellow Dye 5 (Tartrazine)
  • Blue Dye 1 (Brilliant Blue FCF)
  • Red Dye 3 (Erythrosine)
  • Carmoisine (E122)

Why We Avoid Them: Artificial dyes have been linked to hyperactivity in children and may cause allergic reactions or other health concerns.

Instead: We use natural alternatives like beets and fruit-based colorings.

High-Fructose Corn Syrup
Why We Avoid It: This cheap sweetener is heavily processed and often linked to obesity, insulin resistance, and other health concerns.

Instead: We rely on natural sweeteners like organic cane sugar, pure maple syrup, and organic light corn syrup. Unlike high-fructose corn syrup, organic light corn syrup is a non-GMO option that enhances the texture and sweetness balance of our royal icing (featured in The Royal Cookie) without compromising on quality.

Artificial Preservatives

  • BHT (Butylated Hydroxytoluene)
  • BHA (Butylated Hydroxyanisole)
  • Sodium Benzoate

Why We Avoid Them: Artificial preservatives can extend shelf life, but they’ve also been linked to potential carcinogenic effects and allergic reactions. Our cookies are made fresh with ingredients that don’t need artificial preservation.

Instead: To keep our cookies fresh without the need for artificial preservatives, we rely on natural ingredients and methods. Our cookies are baked fresh to order, and we use high-quality, organic ingredients that naturally have a longer shelf life without the need for added preservatives. Our packaging also helps maintain freshness while keeping our cookies free from unnecessary additives.

Artificial Sweeteners

  • Aspartame
  • Saccharin
  • Sucralose (Splenda)

Why We Avoid Them: These sugar substitutes often come with a bitter aftertaste and have been controversial regarding their safety and impact on metabolism.

Instead:  We use real Cane Sugar, Brown Sugar, Molasses, and Coconut Sugar to sweeten our cookies, offering natural sweetness without the drawbacks of artificial alternatives.

Hydrogenated Oils and Trans Fats

  • Margarine
  • Shortening
  • Vegetable Oil Blends

Why We Avoid Them: These unhealthy fats are associated with heart disease and inflammation.

Instead: We stick to healthier options like real butter and unrefined oils.

Bleached Flour

  • All-Purpose Bleached Flour: Common in baking for lighter texture and color.
  • Self-Rising Bleached Flour: Includes added baking powder and salt.
  • Cake Flour: Often bleached to create a fine, soft texture suitable for delicate baked goods.

Why We Avoid It:  The bleaching process often involves chemicals like chlorine gas, benzoyl peroxide, or azodicarbonamide, which can leave residues and strip away essential nutrients.

Instead:  We use organic, unbleached, high-quality flour, ensuring a more natural and nutrient-rich option.

 Our Commitment

We’re passionate about using ingredients you can trust. From Certified Humane, Organic, and Fair Trade-labeled products to natural sweeteners and unprocessed flours, our promise is simple: every cookie is made with care and integrity.

Thank you for choosing The Michael’s Place, where quality and transparency are always on the menu. Have questions about our ingredients? Reach out to us at cookies@themichaelsplace.com.
